Mount Aso in Japan erupts without warning
September 2015 – JAPAN – A volcano located on Japan’s southern-most main island of Kyushu has erupted, sending up huge plumes of grey ash and smoke, Japan’s Meteorological Agency said. The 1,592-metre Mount Aso is one of the most active peaks in Japan but is also a popular hiking spot. Authorities issued their third-highest alert and cancelled more than a dozen flights after the huge volcano shot a column of ash several thousand meters into the clear sky. there were a handful of people at a parking lot near the peak but they were evacuated safely, officials said. They said the eruption had come without warning.
Kyushu Electric Power Co said the eruption would have no impact on its nuclear plants, one of which — the Sendai nuclear plant, roughly 160 kilometers south of Mount Aso — was restarted in August. Television footage showed black smoke boiling into the sky and ash was falling as far as 4km away, NHK national television said. Local authorities have set up a four-kilometer no-go zone around the crater. Japan lies on the “Ring of Fire” — a horseshoe-shaped band of fault lines and volcanoes around the edges of the Pacific Ocean — and is home to more than 100 active volcanoes. Mount Ontake in central Japan erupted unexpectedly last year, killing 63 people, the worst volcanic disaster for nearly 90 years. In May, a remote island south of Kyushu was evacuated due to another eruption. –ABC News

Series of earthquakes strike off Mexico’s west coast, no damage reported
September 2015 – MEXICO – A series of earthquakes, including one of magnitude 6.6, struck in waters off the west coast of Mexico early on Sunday, but there were no immediate reports of any damage. The 6.6 magnitude quake, which the U.S. Geological Survey initially reported at a magnitude of 6.8, struck at sea around 106 km (66 miles) southwest of Los Mochis, Sinaloa, at a depth of 10 km.
There were three other smaller quakes nearby, ranging in magnitude from 4.9 to 5.3. “The biggest one felt reasonably strong, but there have been no reports of damage,” an emergency services official said by telephone from Los Mochis, which is located in northern Sinaloa, and sits across the Gulf of California from the south of the Baja California peninsula. –Reuters

California town of 2,700 told to prepare to leave as wildfire surges – giant Sequoia grove threatened
September 2015 – CALIFORNIA – Hundreds of people were forced to evacuated on Friday as a Northern California wildfire threatened rural communities, destroying six homes, threatening thousands more and prompting the governor to declare a state of emergency. “It’s expanding like a balloon,” state fire spokeswoman Nancy Longmore said. “It’s moving very fast. There’s many homes threatened…This fire is extremely dangerous.” The slow-moving fire managed to burn about a single square mile on Thursday. However, the fire exploded, burning 101 square miles by Friday evening. It was only 5 percent contained. At one point, the blaze was bearing down on the 2,700 residents of San Andreas, prompting an evacuation order for the entire town 60 miles east of Sacramento. However, the fire would change direction, and the order was called off a short time later, state fire spokesman Daniel Berlant said.
“The fire was quickly approaching the community,” Berlant said. “This fire is very dynamic and changing different directions with the topography… That makes it very unpredictable, and with the exponential growth, we’re seeing a lot of danger not only to residents in the path of this fire but to our own firefighters, as well.” San Andreas residents were still told to prepare to leave just in case the fire turned around again. At least 460 residents from surrounding towns were under evacuation order and moved to evacuation centers for the night. One of those evacuation centers was at the San Andreas Town Hall, which itself had to be evacuated for a while. “I had to move a kitchen full of food, 217 beds, three huge air conditioners,” said Gina Gonzales, a Red Cross volunteer organizing the evacuation center.
About 90 minutes after moving everything to the Calaveras County Fairgrounds, Cal Fire ordered the evacuation center to move back to the San Andreas Town Hall because firefighters were planning on making the fairgrounds their base camp, Gonzales said. The lack of communication being given to the evacuees angered some residents, she said. Six homes and two outbuildings burned Thursday, and 6,000 more were threatened, Longmore said. The number of homes burned could increase, as Longmore said the blaze was moving through rural areas with houses. “The plan is to try to get this thing out,” she said. “It’s going to take quite a bit of work. We’re in for the long haul here.” Gov. Jerry Brown declared a state of emergency, helping to free up funding and resources in the firefight.
More than 1,500 firefighters, 178 engines and seven air tankers and 16 helicopters were dispatched to fight the fire, which began Tuesday. The cause of the fire is still under investigation. Meanwhile another California wildfire threatened to sweep through an ancient grove of Giant Sequoia trees. The lightning-caused fire has charred 172 square miles and grew by nearly 40 square miles in the last week. In a fight to save the trees, firefighters have been clearing lines with bulldozers around the Grant Grove and putting up sprinklers, said Andy Isolano, a spokesman for the Clovis Fire Department.
The grove is named for the towering General Grant tree that stands 268 feet tall. There are dozens of Sequoia groves in the Sierra Nevada, and some trees are 3,000 years old. Fresno County Sheriff’s deputies were going door to door Friday distributing mandatory evacuation notices to residents in the tiny community of Dunlap, east of Fresno. About 130 people live in Dunlap, but it wasn’t clear how many residents will need to leave. On Thursday, officials from Kings Canyon National Park ordered the evacuation of all Sequoia National Forest park visitors and park employees, concession staff and residents of Wilsonia in the Grant Grove area of the park. –Fox News

Mexico’s Colima and Popocatepetl volcanoes simultaneously erupt – shooting out ash, smoke
September 2015 – MEXICO – Colima Volcano, located in southwest Mexico, is spewing fresh smoke and ash in a series of small eruptions, according to reports Saturday. And, about 310 miles away, another volcano, Popocatepetl, has also erupted. The Colima volcano has been rumbling since July 10, when its last major eruption occurred. Also known as the Fire Volcano, Colima shot ash over 2,000 meters into the air and cloaked local villages with dust, RT.com reported. Local authorities are monitoring the volcano’s activity and have reportedly put an emergency plan into action.
Though Colima has been touted as the most active volcano in Mexico and in North America, it has only erupted about 40 times since the 16th century. Meanwhile, the Popocatepetl Volcano — located in southern states of Puebla and Morelos — has recorded 12 exhalations, mostly of gas and vapor, according to Sky News. Nicknamed El Popo, Popocatepetl came back to life in 1994 after about 50 years of inactivity. Since then, the volcano has erupted at irregular intervals. –IB Times

Crane collapse at Mecca’s Grand Mosque kills at least 107
September 2015 – SAUDI ARABIA – Strong winds were on Saturday blamed for knocking over a crane at one of Islam’s holiest shrines in Mecca, killing 107 worshippers in what John Kerry described as a “horrific accident.” An investigation has been ordered into the disaster by Mecca’s governor, Prince Khaled al-Faisal, according to Al Arabiya. “Heavy rain and strong winds of unusually high speed led to the uprooting of trees, the fall of panels and the collapse of the crane,” General Suleiman al-Amr, director general of the Civil Defense Authority, told the Saudi-owned channel.
The number of deaths may increase, al-Amr said. Many of the 238 people injured in the accident were only lightly wounded, he said. It came at the start of the annual hajj pilgrimage, which has seen a string of deadly incidents including a 2006 stampede that killed hundreds. In a statement, Kerry said it was “a horrific accident at such a peaceful place.” He added: “During this hajj season especially, the United States will stand with Saudi Arabia and all Muslims around the world in the aftermath of this dreadful incident at one of Islam’s holiest sites.” –NBC
Magnitude-5.2 earthquake rattles Tokyo, injures 13
September 2015 – TOKYO, Japan – An earthquake with an estimated magnitude of 5.2 struck the Tokyo metropolitan area at 5:49 a.m. on Sept. 12, injuring at least 13 people. The epicenter of the quake was about 57 kilometers beneath Tokyo Bay, the Japan Meteorological Agency said. The quake recorded an intensity of lower 5 on the Japanese scale of 7 in Chofu, western Tokyo, and 4 in many of Tokyo’s 23 wards, as well as Yokohama, Kawasaki, and other areas in Kanagawa Prefecture, southern Saitama Prefecture and Urayasu, and many other municipalities in Chiba Prefecture. An intensity of 3 was recorded in parts in Ibaraki, Tochigi, Yamanashi, Gunma, Nagano and Shizuoka prefectures.
According to local fire departments, at least 11 people in Tokyo, one in Matsudo, Chiba Prefecture, and another in Sagamihara, Kanagawa Prefecture were injured in falls. Among them, a woman in her 80s in Nakano Ward and a resident of Matsudo in her 60s fell from beds and suffered fractured limbs. Several tectonic plates meet under Tokyo Bay and their jagged boundary lines trigger magnitude-5 to -6 earthquakes in the Kanto region every few years, agency officials explained. The earthquake had no relation with major temblors whose epicenter is directly below Tokyo, which have repeatedly rattled the region in the past, the agency said. It warned of a possible aftershock that could reach an intensity of around 4, which could exacerbate the damage caused by recent torrential rain and extensive floods in eastern Japan. –Asahi

1 dead, 22 missing in torrential rain in Japan
September 2015 – JAPAN – One person is dead and 22 people are missing after record-breaking rain pounded the Kanto and Tohoku regions, causing widespread flooding and resulting in an evacuation advisory being issued to more than 1 million residents. An emergency warning for heavy rain was issued in Miyagi Prefecture at about 3:20 a.m. on Friday. Similar warnings had been issued for Tochigi and Ibaraki prefectures on Thursday.
According to authorities, a 63-year-old woman died after being caught in a landslide in Kanuma, Tochigi Prefecture, and homes were washed away in Joso, Ibaraki Prefecture, after the Kinugawa river broke its banks. Dozens of people were rescued by helicopter after becoming stranded in their homes. According to a Yomiuri Shimbun tally, at least 25 people have been injured. The Japan Meteorological Agency said the city of Nikko, Tochigi Prefecture, had received 614 millimeters of rain in the 48 hours to 6 p.m. Thursday, while 483 millimeters had fallen in Kanuma. Massive dust storm blankets the Middle East: ‘It seemed apocalyptic’
September 2015 – SAUDI ARABIA – A massive sandstorm that enveloped much of the Middle East on Tuesday sent Jeddah into total darkness at 6 p.m. The storm lasted for 40 minutes, with sand-laden winds so ferocious that one could hear the incessant rattling of windows in many neighborhoods. Abdul Hameed Abal-Ari, a senior official at King Abdul Aziz International Airport in Jeddah, told local media that flights were suspended briefly. “Incoming flights were diverted to nearby airports, while some departures were suspended.” Seven flights were diverted to Madinah, Yanbu and Taif. “By 7 p.m., things were back to normal,” he said.
“It all happened in a matter of minutes,” said Sadiya Haneef, a resident of Al-Sulemaniya district in Jeddah. “I could see from my balcony a mushroom-like apparition on the horizon. I thought it was smoke billowing from a faraway district,” she said. Soon it was clear to her that it was a sandstorm. “I had to literally struggle to close the door to my balcony. The gusty winds had sent everything into darkness,” she said. The experience in another neighborhood was equally bad. “My mother noticed dark clouds when she was seeing off my sister for evening classes,” said 13-year-old Mohammed Tareq. “Within minutes, everything was hazy in Al-Aziziya district and there was literally no visibility. It was one of the most bizarre things I’ve ever experienced. It seemed apocalyptic.”
Civil Defense personnel received distress calls from residents who wanted to know what was happening. Ali Al-Masry, a private sector employee, was upset there was no advance warning. “I have a son who is asthmatic and such weather conditions impact on his health,” he said. “If I had known I would have taken adequate precautions. Now I have to take him for nebulization at a local hospital.” Sultan Abdul Waheed agreed with Al-Masry’s concern. “In this day and age of high-technology we get to know such things long in advance,” he said. “It is the duty of the relevant departments to keep the population informed.” Abdul Waheed said he only realized later that the whole region was affected. –Arab News

Chicago Sued Over Its Attempted 9% Netflix Tax
Back in July we noted how the city of Chicago was hoping to cash in
on streaming services by imposing a new tax on Netflix. Blind to the
negative impact such taxes can have on emerging economies, Chicago
proudly proclaimed it would be expanding its 9% "amusement tax"
authority (traditionally covering book stores, music stores, ball games
and other brick and mortar entertainment) to cover any service that
interacts with the cloud. While the new ruling was supposed to
technically take effect September 1, Chicago recently announced it was
postponing portions of the new tax until next yearto field criticism and
manage plan logistics.

Former New York Stock Exchange Head Says That The Stock Market Is Rigged
Richard Grasso acted as the chairman and chief executive of the New
York Stock Exchange from 1995 to 2003, and he has come out in a recent
interview saying that the stock market is rigged. Considering that he
spent nearly a decade at the head of the institution, he would obviously
have legitimate experience to speak on. The interview was reported by
the Wall Street Journal this week and is set to appear on the television
show “Wall Street Week” this Sunday. During the interview Grasso said,
“A fast market is not necessarily a fair market, as evidenced by that
Monday open. Frankly, some of the things that went on that day need very
close scrutiny.”

In the American police state, you’re either a prisoner (shackled,
controlled, monitored, ordered about, limited in what you can do and
say, your life not your own) or a prison bureaucrat (police officer,
judge, jailer, spy, profiteer, etc.). Indeed, at a time when we are all
viewed as suspects, there are so many ways in which a person can be
branded a criminal for violating any number of laws, regulations or
policies. Even if you haven’t knowingly violated any laws, there is
still a myriad of ways in which you can run afoul of the police state
and end up on the wrong side of a jail cell.

cannot walk through a mall and not have their face caught on camera,

Russian Flights Over Iraq and Iran Escalate Tension With U.S.
Russia is using an air corridor over Iraq and Iran to fly military
equipment and personnel to a new air hub in Syria, openly defying
American efforts to block the shipments and significantly increasing
tensions with Washington. American officials disclosed Sunday that at
least seven giant Russian Condor transport planes had taken off from a
base in southern Russia during the past week to ferry equipment to
Syria, all passing through Iranian and Iraqi airspace.

release of 28 key pages from the U.S. Congress’s “Joint Inquiry Into
Intelligence Community Activities Before and After the Terrorist Attacks
of September 11, 2001”. The report was issued in December 2002. Since
that time, the then-Chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee,
former Democratic Senator Bob Graham of Florida, has been joined by a
bi-partisan group of senators and representatives in calling for the
release of the 28 pages. When a portion of the report was released in
2003, the Bush administration insisted the 28 pages remain classified.

transplant have been set, after the controversial Italian doctor that
will lead the surgery said that he has selected his team of surgeons.
Radical Italian surgeon Sergio Canavero has drawn fascination and
criticism after he announced plans to cut off a man’s head and put it

Russian Tanks, Artillery Massing Near Syrian Airfield, US Officials Tell Reuters
While the build up of Russian military forces in Syria has hardly
been unexpected or a surprise, as it is a repeat of what happened in the
summer of 2013 when in response to foreign provocations the Assad
regime was once again on the edge of collapse and only Russian
intervention prevented the fall of Syria to 'western' forces, the
question has emerged in the past week: just how much of the military
build up is real and verifiable, and how much is a function of the
western media euphoria now intent on scapegoating the upcoming land
invasion into Syria by US-supported al Nusra (and ISIS) forces as a
retaliation for Russian military build up which in itself is a reaction
to the now-confirmed western strategy to oust Assad.
